Well what a week we have all had, I hope you are all safe, well and warm. It is not the best time to be going out so why not to finish all your christmas cards and if you are worried you don’t know how to use reds then we have a fab tutorial for you………Tracy has done a great tutorial for us this week, so over to Tracy :)

Hi Tracy here with a quick and very simple tutorial, using shades of red. As the man in red will be making an appearance next month, i thought i'd show you how i've coloured Santa's hat and coat with Promarkers.

I start with the areas i want darkest, then add each colour going over the previous colour and extending a little at a time into the white areas.

work in a circular motion in and around the white areas using the blender pen.

Then go over the whole area to blend.

Add shadows.

Blend all over again.

I hope you'll find this useful when using reds on all your images.

I can not believe a week has passed since I last posted, where does the time go!!

This week we have a great tutorial from Sue, if you have bought some Aquamarkers and don’t know where to begin this is the tutorial you need……so over to Sue…..

Hi, it's Sue here and I've put together a tutorial to show you how to get started with Aquamarkers. As Aquamarkers are waterbased you need to use Stazon ink as this won't bleed or run when water is used and it dries really quickly. I've used Jet Black, but you could use any colour you like.

The paper that I've used is a Hot Pressed Watercolour paper which is great as it doesn't warp when water is used. I always have a sheet of kitchen roll next to me so that I can use it to dab off excess water from my paint brush. If you have a waterbrush, that's fine to use too, I just prefer an ordinary paint brush. The stamp I've used is a fab one by Whipper Snapper. First of all I scribble some ink onto an acrylic block and with a damp paintbrush, pick up some of the ink and do a first layer making the colour very pale.

I start to build the colour up going over areas where they need to be darker due to shadow.

To get extra depth to the colour I take the pen direct to the paper and then blend the ink with the damp paint brush.

The colour builds up quite slowly so sometimes it takes several layers of ink to get to the desired strength of colour. The beauty with Aquamarkers is that the colour blends so easily with a damp paint brush and you can get just about any shade you like.

For the neck trim of the gown I've used Sunburst Yellow and again I painted a pale coat first then I took the pen direct to the paper to add some depth to the colour, all the while blending with my damp paint brush.

For the wooden stand I've used Gold Ochre and Mahogany. I've used Gold Ochre first giving the stand an all over coat. I then used the Gold Ochre direct to the paper to add depth of colour and shade.

The Mahogany was just used where the shade would be the darkest, in this case the left hand side of the stand.

For the scroll I used Cream and Eggshell, just giving it a light coat and adding a little shade to the lower edge.

The last colour I used is my favourite and that's Sangria. It's such a deliciously rich colour, and I've used it for the tie around the scroll. It's also possible to use digi images with Aquamarkers by heat setting the image. Just use your heat gun to waft over the printed image for a few seconds. You do need to be more careful with the amount of water you use as the watercolour paper I've used here wouldn't go through my printer and the card wouldn't be as resistant to warping as it's not as absorbent. The weekend is nearly here again woohooo, so we have a fabby tutorial to inspire from the lovely Julie, if you want to see the finished card just pop over to this weeks challenge. So without further a do here we go…………

Hi there, it's Julie, and I'm here to show you how I coloured my image from this week's challenge, in black and white tones with my Promarkers. The first thing that I would say is that I've used hardly any black as I find this can be too harsh when you're trying to blend your shades.

I used this fab Kenny K digi image which is perfect for black and white tones al a cartoon style! I've started off with the Ice Grey family - starting with Ice Grey 4 for my darkest areas.

Onto Ice Grey 3, gradually bringing in the colour further to the centre of the image, then Ice Grey 2 and Ice Grey 1.

I've then gone back and added some Ice Grey 5 to further accentuate his muscles/shadows,

and blended through again from darkest to lightest to blend together. I've done the same with his head, blending through from dark to light - you can see this in the final pics at the end.

For his legs, I've used the Cool family of Greys as using a different family of the greys adds to the depth and contrast in your image. Again, the same technique, starting with the darkest, Cool Grey 5, in the creases and the shadows.

This is the effect at Cool Grey 2, leaving a thin area uncoloured to capture the sheen of his rubber leggings - ooh er!!! I've also used my blender to soften the edges between the Cool Grey 2 and the uncoloured strip.

Again, the same technique and colours with his gloves, leaving the tips of his knuckles white as this would be the area that I imagine reflect the light the most.

I've used the Warm Grey set for his boots, starting with 4 and blending down to 2.

As with his body, I've then gone back to Warm Grey 5 and added this to the darker area to increase the feeling of depth and shadow.

Just leaving a touch of white to show where the light catches on the back of his boots.

The briefcase is the only place where I used black to start off as my deepest colour, then used the Cool Grey set to complete my colouring and blending.

And this is my finished image showing the final effect obtained by using all three different families of the Greys and a hint of black. You can also see the little bit of flesh colouring where his face is exposed and for this I used putty and pastel pink.

Now I think you will agree that was a great tutorial.

Right onto our tutorial this week from the lovely Andie -

I'm sure many of you are aware of the new range of Letraset Aqua Markers. For this weeks workshop I wanted to try & show you why I think they are so fab! On the suggestion of my PFP D-Teamie Gina I used Daler-Rowney, The Langton Extra Smooth Watercolour Paper, Hot Pressed with VersaFine Ink.

Aqua Markers, up to this point, come in a much smaller range of colours than Promarkers. But that is no problem. They can be used like a paint pallette to mix almost any colour you wish. There are several techniques for using them. For this tutorial, I scribbled colour onto a non-porous surface & used a Water Brush to pick up the colour like paint.

I used a CC Design Kiki La Rue image for this tutorial.

1. Using small circular motions I coloured her face with Eggshell.

2. Rather like Promarkers I layered colour on top of colour to darken the areas in shadow. Round the edge of her face I used Deco Peach & Rose Blush. My brush was damp rather than wet. Too wet & the brush will lift the colour on the page & leave water blush marks. Patience is a virtue. Either wait for the area you are painting to dry or start colouring another area before you layer the colour.

3. On the pink areas I used Cherry Blossom as a base, again using my brush in small circular strokes, but using little dabbing motions to build a depth of colour.

4. To darken the colour, I layered Flamingo Pink over the Cherry Blossom. 5. I added Puce to add further depth to the shadows. 6. The blue areas were coloured in the same way, with Frost Blue as a base, & Storm Blue for darker shadowy areas. 7. On her hair I used Straw Yellow for the base.

8. Over the Straw Yellow I shaded Golden Brown & Mocha.

9. To add further depth to her hair. I used small strokes of Mocha, directly from pen to paper, & used my brush to pull the colour from the darkest parts to the lighter areas.

I love the Aqua Markers for the range of effects you can achieve with them. There are several ways of using them, of which this is only one. Give them ago & discover which style suits you!

Now we have a fab tutorial for aquamarkers from Tracy, we will be having quite a few tutorials using aquamarkers as they have some fab new colours. We are allowing them to be used on the challenges too so this will be a great way for us to all get some tips

I stamped the image using Jet black Stazon ink onto DALER ROWNEY HOT PRESS LANGTON WATERCOLOUR PAPER. I use an acrylic block to mix my colours on, and just scribble a bit of the colour/colours on it, add a little water, mix and pick up the colour with a water brush.

For the skin tone i mixed Straw Yellow and Flame Red, and made a really weak solution by adding lots of water, and painted all the skin areas in this very pale colour.

I then added more of the two colours to my block to make the colour darker and added that to the image in the areas i wanted to darken. I also added a bit of watered down Rose Carmine to her cheeks, and blended it all with a damp brush.

I cleaned off my block and added a good quantity of Aquamarine, mixed it with water and gave her gown a wash of this pale colour.

I then touched in the darker areas using the Aquamarine marker straight to the image, you can see where i have done this on the inside of her sleeve. I then blended with a slightly damp water brush.

Next i moved onto her hair.

I mixed some Sepia and water on my block, and gave her hair a light colour wash. I then applied Sepia straight to the image in areas i wanted darker, and blended with a slightly damp brush.

I just follow this same method on all areas, first adding a light color wash then adding some of the colour straight to image and blending.

For the leaves i used Fern Green and Rose Carmine for the berries.

Straw Yellow on the candle and a touch of Flame Red (on the flame).

(This is when i noticed i'd missed the bit of hair over her shoulder).

Lamp Black on the bells.

Here's the finished image, which appeared on my card for challenge #65 here.

I hope this has given you an insight into how i use these gorgeous and very addictive markers.

Hi everyone, we just wanted to update you in regards to the Weekend Workshops. As you have probably noticed we haven't had any tutorials for a few weeks, this is mainly due to the fact that the DT have been enjoying a break (children have been off school and holidays). We want to assure you that the tutorials will return but it will probably be a few more weeks before they do.

Until the tutorials are back up and running we will leave the prize draw open, so tell all your friends to enter!!

I started off with Cocoa around the edges of the areas i wanted darkest and dotted a little along a her hairline.

Then i went over the Cocoa with Cinnamon, extending the colouring inwards a little.

I then went over the previous coloured areas with Tan, again extending the colouring slightly inwards.

And finally i went over the whole skin area with Putty until i was happy with the blending.

The image i've chosen to use from this weeks sponsor 'Sassy Studio Designs' is one of the Little Honey's, Mermaid Mandy.

Today I'm going to show you how i colour most of my images.

I have printed the image onto Mondi IQ smooth white 160gsm card, which i got from Staples.

If the image is a person i always start with skin, so i've started with Apricot in the areas i wanted darkest/shadowed.

Then i went over the Apricot with Oatmeal, extending the colour a little into the white.

Next i went over the whole of the skin area and filled in all the remaining white using Blush.

I then added some colour to her cheeks using Pastel Pink, and went over the whole of the skin area again with Blush to blend it all together.

Now onto the hair.

Starting again with the darkest areas, i used Cocoa.

Then i went over the Cocoa and extended into the white with Cinnamon.

To complete the hair i went over the whole area using Tan and blended it all together.

Next i coloured her tail and shell bikini top, using the same method again.

I also added colour to her eyes, lips, necklace and earring.

Finally i went around the edge of the whole image with Powder blue, then softened the line using the blender.

This also gets rid of any little bits of colour that may have gone over the line a little.

I hope you've enjoyed seeing how i colour.

Hi everyone, my name is Sue and it's my turn to do the tutorial for this week. The sponsor for this week's challenge is Moias Designs and I was lucky enough to be able to choose an image to work with.

1 )This is the image I chose, I thought she was really sweet, hope you like her too !

2 ) Before I start any shading on a project I always have my ProMarker chart to hand and look to see what colours I want to use, and this also gives me an idea of different combinations to try. 3 ) Once I've decided on the colours I will always have a test piece of card to make sure the colours do blend together. 4 ) I always start with the lightest shade and will colour the entire part of the image intended for that colour. 5 ) I then move to the next shade keeping in mind where the light is coming from and where the shadows would be. 6 ) As you can see as you start to build up the colours the image starts to take shape. 7 ) For the hair I use the same principle and decide on the colours and have a test piece to check the colours blend. 8 ) I started with the lightest colour and built up the layers leaving some areas paler so that the the hair doesn't appear flat. 9 ) For the skin I tend to stick to the same colours and start with Ivory and colour in all of the skin sections of the image. 10 ) I then use Blush and go around the edges where the shadows are most likely to be. 11 ) I then finish of with Dusky Pink and Sunkissed Pink, again just going around the edges. 12 ) For the flowers I selected a range of lemons and yellows to compliment the greens. 13 ) I coloured all of the flowers with the palest colour first then added the darker colours to the centres of the flowers. 14 ) As I did manage to go over the edge in one place, when this happens I go dotty around the edges ! I normally pick a neutral colour and then 2 other colours that compliment the image. 15 ) Here's the finished image ! Michele’s Tutorial

Hi there and thanks for stopping by today. My name is Michele and today It’s my turn to do a tutorial for you using ProMarker pens.

This week we are sponsored by the very lovely and talented Sally-Ann from Digi Stamp boutique and she very kindly let me chose which image that I wanted to use for this tutorial. When I saw the adorable Tallulah Fairy image I knew that I just had to use this one (I LOVE fairies).

First off I’ve printed the image using my laser printer onto Datacopy Colour Printing Paper 160gsm

To start off with I use Burnt Orange all round the edges where I think the shadows will be
Then I’ve gone over the Burnt Orange with Coral and also a small bit into the white areas
For the next step I’ve used Sunkissed Pink over the previous two colours and slightly into the white area slowly working my way into the centre
I’ve then gone over all of the areas previously coloured using Ivory in small circular motions.

5. For the cheeks I’ve drawn two small circles using Antique Pink

6. Then I’ve gone over the Antique Pink using Cocktail Pink making the circle slightly larger

7. For the last stage I’ve used Baby Pink going over the two previous colours

8. For the hair I’ve first used my Cinnamon colour which is starting to run out – NB: If you have colours which are drying out hold onto them especially the colours you would use for hair as these are ideal to add fine details.

9. Then I’ve used my Cocoa which is also drying out using light flicks following the hair shape

10. I’ve now used the colour Gold again using light flicks

11. Then I’ve used Lemon using light flicks

12. Lastly I go over the whole area using Ivory

13. For the dress, heart wand and shoes I’ve first coloured in the image using Forest Green where I think the shadows would be.

14. Then I’ve used Apple going over the Forest Green

15. Then I’ve used Warm Grey 4 where I thought the darker shadows would be

16. Then I’ve used Forest Green again going over the previous colours

17. Next colour I’ve used is Apple layering over the other colours

18. The next colour I’ve used is Leaf Green again going over all the previous colours and working my way into the centre

19. The last step I’ve used my Blender pen and I’ve gone over all of the areas using small circular motions

20. For the tights I’ve used the colour Gold starting at the points where I think the darkest parts would be

21. I’ve then gone over it again using Warm Grey 4

22. To blend in the first two colours I’ve used Lemon

23. For the image to stand out a little I’ve used Ice Grey 4 where I think the shadows would be

24. Then I’ve softened the areas using my Blender pen.

OK onto this weeks tutorial, this week is the turn of the gorgeous Julie………….

Here we are, Friday again and time for me to do my first tutorial for the PFP weekend workshop (first one ever actually, sshhh!! - my maiden voyage, LOL!) Our sponsor this week is Doodle Palace

and I just fell in love with this fabulous USS Ark digi image from them. I started off with the elephant and coloured most of his head and trunk with Ice Grey, then added Tea Green but not quite so far into the centre of his head, then Grey Green mostly round the edges.

I then went over the whole head with the Ice Grey again and kept blending until I was happy with the result. (You'll probably be able to see this better in the photo after this one!)

I moved onto the sheep next and made him a little black faced sheep using Warm Greys 3-5 starting with the lightest as for the elephant. I then edged his wool with Khaki just to give a little definition.

Onto the giraffe, using Honeycomb at the edges, then Saffron and finally Buttercup to blend.

I then used Warm Grey 3 and Tan to colour his markings. Onto the Cheeky Monkey, I used a combo of Tan and Warm Greys again to tone and blend, and then Pastel Yellow and Buttercup for the Duck. You can see in the photo below that the elephant colours have bled quite a bit but my finished picture will show that I've managed to blend this away with my blender pen (outlining the image also helps with any little problem areas!!)

The next set of pictures show the colouring of the wood. For this I used Sandstone, Caramel and Tan starting with the darkest first in the corners of the wood where I imagined it would be more weathered and shadowed.

I finally went over the whole ark with Pastel Yellow and kept blending until it looked like this:

Lastly, I coloured the wheels using Holly and Grey Green to achieve the light and shade.

Just noticed a slight bit of bleeding again under the back wheel, which can be a bit of an issue with darker colours, so I'll use my blender again to remove this in time for my finished card which you can see, along with the rest of the DT cards for next week, on Tuesday. Good Morning

For my tutorial today I am using one of the 'Emma' images from the 'Empty Pocket Shruggers Digi Set' by Fred She Said Digital Designs.

A fabulous set containing a number of images and sentiments.

I use 'Stampin Up' Whisper White card and print my images with an old Epson Stylus R200 photo printer.

I begin to colour all the skin areas using the lightest shade first which is Ivory... I then colour a deeper line with vanilla followed by a thinner line of blush, deepening the colour on the cheek areas. Leaving a lighter area to the centre of the face... I go back to my Ivory marker and colour over the whole area, blending the deeper colours... Next I move onto the hair, using the same method of colouring the whole area and then deepening the colours - I used Pastel Yellow all over...
Then Gold, Sunflower and Caramel... Onto 'Emma's' jumper - I coloured the stripes with Salmon Pink & Meadow Green all over...

Deepened the edges with Carmine, Magenta, Lime Green & Pear Green...

Onto her trousers - I used Pastel Blue all over....

Then Cool Aqua & Duck Egg ...blending with Pastel Blue

Onto the shoes - I used Satin, Tan, Caramel and Cocoa...

And finally to finish my image I outlined with Warm Grey 1 and added some highlights with a white gel pen...

Morning crafters for today’s tutorial I am using a super cute image from Lily Boo’s boutique from the ‘birds collection’, there are six images in total and I was really spoilt for choice, but decided to plump for the loved up pair below!

Now before I begin I must apologise for the quality of my printing – I can assure you that the images from Lily Boo’s boutique are outstanding and I’ve personally used them many times before - its a problem with my home printer that resulted in the poor quality/poor colour image :( Please click on the pictures for a better look.

Ok here is the image before I started colouring:

Firstly I begin by using the darkest shade (in this case sky blue and pumpkin):

Then I blend inwards using arctic blue and amber:

Finally I blend all the colours together using powder blue and gold:

Next I start on the bushes using green:

Again blend inwards with apple:

Then finally blend all the colours together with meadow green:

For their head and tail feathers I used exactly the same colours and blended as before.

Their beaks are coloured with sunflower and tulip yellow and their feet with ice grey 3:

My final touch is to use a sakura stardust pen to colour in the heart:

"It's the most wonderful time of the year (ding dong, ding dong)"..what's that?... your not in the christmas spirit??...but we're half way through the year already!! and theres only 189 shopping days left!!...lol...now i have to say this is the first time ive done a tutorial and ive never been so worried...so please be gentle ....and this week we are being sponsored by the lovely Christine at Sketching Stamper ...I have chosen the gorgeous "Snow Fairy"...(hence the christmas songs)......and without further ado..heres what i did

i printed the image onto some 160gsm text and graphics paper by Rey which i got from Staples...

I then started by colouring her face using Ivory as a base then slowly building up with Blush..then Dusky Pink then blending again with Ivory...and doing the same around her neck line

i also added a little Pastel Pink to her cheeks and again blended with ivory...i had to be very gentle as the whole of her head including the hood wasnt much bigger than my thumb!!

i then moved to main body of the image...i wanted to try and add a bit of depth to the image through the shading... when there are no definite areas of shade or natural creases to the clothing then this is what i do...

starting with a base colour of Pastel Blue i colour nearly all of the image just leaving a small area of white as though the light is hitting it...

for the next layer i have used Blue Pearl... again covering most of the image but leaving an area of white and Pastel Blue

i then used Cornflower around the outer edges....

i then went over the entire image again in small circular motions with my Pastel Blue to blend everything together..but still left a small strip of white

i then repeated the process with the darker colours until i was happy...

and again a final blend with my Pastel Blue..if you dont feel confident leaving an area of white then a white gel pen will work fine to add detail :-)

i then used the same blues for the top of the hood and using Tea Green went round the fur edges of the hood and dress....

and then i also went round the edges and detail of the wings with Powder Blue leaving the other areas white

and finally blended a mixture of Cool Grey 2, 3 & 4 for her hair

it wasnt until i reviewed my piccies i realised that whilst colouring the hair i had caught the side of her face...on such a small image you probably wouldnt notice (well i didnt!!)..but if you do dont worry just go over it again with your ivory or blush and it will lift the colour back out...like so!!...(the ink was still wet when i took this and her face has dried a lighter shade more in keeping with the neck line!!))

So here we go Debbi’s last tutorial as a PFP design team member awwwww :(

This week I've chosen the Scotland Ian set from Digital Delights by Louby Lou as it fits in well with my theme for next week's PfP Challenge (you'll have to wait til then to find out the theme)

I use a slightly different style of colouring for this kind of whimsical character compared to the style I use for more anatomically correct characters.

Firstly I have printed the image out onto Stampin' Up Whisper White cardstock on my HP Photosmart printer

I've chosen to colour the skin next - I started colouring the darkest areas, under the hair line, under the chin, under the sleeves and kilt with Coral. Just colouring a small area. I then coloured over the Coral and outwards with Sunkissed Pink then repeated this for the remaining skin areas with Blush, colouring with small circular motions. By colouring over the darker shades, you blend away any hard lines between the shades.

I chose to colour the jacket and hat with one of the grey collections - in this case I've used Warm Greys 1-5. I started out with the WG5 next to the outlines of the jacket and hat. Colouring over this and slightly more towards the middle of each area with WG4, I repeated this stage with WG3, 2 and 1. Again, by colouring over what you have previously coloured at each stage, it will ensure any hard lines are blended.

At this point I added a little shading with WG1 to the areas of the image that I wanted to remain white eg; his frilly shirt, the pompom on his hat, his sporran and his socks

To complete his outfit, I used WG 4 to add some shading where I imagine there would be some shadow on his kilt. I did this before I coloured it as I find it easier when using several colours to colour in an item of clothing eg tartan, checks, patterns etc

I then used Yellow, Petrol Blue and China Blue to colour his kilt. I also used WG 3 & 5 to colour the other parts of his sporran, and Black to his shoes. I haven't shown it in the pics, but I will add some embellishments to his jacket for the buttons and I will highlight his shoes with sakura white gel pen.

I'll be turning Scotland Ian into a card for the new challenge on Tuesday, thank you for taking the time to read my tutorial

Finally it's my turn to do the workshop, and show you how I colour my image.

I'm so excited and nervous at the same time. I hope my english is good enough :) I'm from Norway (same as my other team member Ida)!

Here goes:

This week we are being sponsored by Janet from the lovely Pink Gem Designs. The image is the supercute Summer Milly, and she fits me perfectly. My choice of colours is Pink (for those who know me, this is no surprise, hehe). I love tho blend in two or three colours in the same shade, to create a dept in the image.

First I start with the "basics", the lightest colour (either it's the skin or clothes)

The Skin I've coloured with Blush, and dress and flowers I've coloured with Pale Pink

For the next colours, to blend in with the basics, I've used Tan on the edges of the skin, and then used Blush again, this way it blends perfectly. On the dress I've used Dusky Rose, and then Pale Pink to blend it with. But on the socks, bow and flowers I've used Antique Pink on the edges, then used Dusky Rose on the next layer and at the end used Pale Pink for the last layer to blend perfectly.

The leaves first got a layer of Lime Zest, then in the center I've used Olive Green, and again I used a touch of Lime Zest again to blend it together.

To do the grass I've used Pear Green on the edges and blended it in with Lime Zest

I chose the hair to be a warm tone, not to dark. The basic colour I used is Vanilla

Then I've used Mustard and Raw Sienna to layer it, and blended it all with the vanilla again.

The tree had to be brown. I've started with the lovely Chestnut on the edges and blended it with Cinnamon.

And then to get some real texture, I've used the Blender to create some Life to the tree

Weekend Workshop #48 - Digi Friday

Sorry for the delay in posting this week's workshop - there was a little confusion behind the scenes. But it's worked out fine, this way there's not the distraction of the anniversary celebrations on the main blog to stop any of you entering the prize draw.

We have one of our new DT members kicking off the Digi Friday's again - it's Andie, and we think you'll agree she has done a terrific job. She was very nervous about doing her first tutorial.

This week I've had the pleasure of using an image from of wonderful sponsor Lexi, from Lexi's Doodles. I chose to colour her gorgeous digi, Elaina. I just adored her from the moment I saw her.

As this is my first tutorial, I just wanted to share with you, the technique I use for colouring with Promarkers. Before I start though there are several factors I try to consider.

1. I choose my DP before I start colouring. In this case I used Basic Grey Cappella papers. I look for an overall tone. That way, if I don't have Promarkers that match the papers exactly I use a colour that matches the tone of the paper to blend my colours to more closely to the DPs.

2. I decide where I think the light would come from, & using lightest shade first leave white highlights to emphasise this. I then practice with the same shade to show where the shadows would be, before using my darker colours to make sure I get it right. If I don't, there's always the blender pen!

3. I always make two copies, so I can practice as I go along if necessary!

So here is Elaina!

I like my characters to have a healthy glow. For skin tones I use Ivory as my base. Then use Vanilla for darker areas toward the edge of the face & blush around the hair line & where there is more shadow.

I've given her blond hair. Here I used Buttercup as a base. Then increased the intensity with Mustard, Sandstone & Cinnamon towards the darker areas. The darker you dare go with the shadows, the more the highlights stand out. I blended them altogether again with Buttercup.

On the green areas, I used Meadow Green as my lightest shade, receeding towards the shadowy areas with Apple & Sandstone. Again using Meadow Green to blend.

For the dress I used Dusky Pink as my base colour, with large areas of white to begin with. I then added Blossom & Carnation Pink to accentuate the colour, but again used Sandstone in the darker areas to tone my colouring with my DPs. Finally blending everything together again with Dusky Pink.

Finally, here is the finished image. I simply used Meadow Green & Dusky Pink on her wings & went over them with the blending pen to make them look as light & gossamer as possible.

I hope this has helped some of you with your colouring techniques. I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Now onto this weeks tutorial, it is Tracy’s first tutorial and she is very nervous so she wants you to be gentle with her, not that she needs it she has done a fabulous tutorial, so without further ado let's get on

Tracy’s Tutorial

The image I chose to use from Doodle Palace is Dillan the Dragon, and I would like to show you how I get a textured look using just one colour and the blender pen.

As it was a dragon I was colouring I decided to use Pear Green as my main colour.

I printed my image on to Mondi IQ 160g/m2 smooth white cardstock from Staples.

First I coloured all the areas I wanted to be green with Pear Green.

I then went over the whole area with the blender pen using small circular motions, I did this twice, allowing a couple of minutes drying time between coats.

As you can see, the result is a very mottled effect.

Using Pear green again, I touched in the areas I wanted the shadows and darker areas to be, and also put a little green in the areas I wanted almost white with a hint of green.

Finally I went over the whole image again with the blender, blending the areas I just made darker, I repeated this until I was happy with the result.

Sue’s Tutorial - Emma in the Strawberry Patch
This weeks sponsor is Tracy from "Fred She Said" when I told Tracy that my theme for this week was Strawberries and Cream she said she would do me a special image and wow what an image it is she is called "Emma in the Strawberry Patch" and she is just too cute. I just hope I have done her justice. Click photos for a closer look Skin I have used oatmeal around the hairline and soft peach on the cheeks and then blended together with blush all over in a circular motion. Dress This time I have used orchid all over then used amethyst in the creases or in the shadow and again blended together with the orchid all over. I try and keep the pen on the papers when I am blending the two colours together and on this one I have blended over the dress twice for depth of colour. Strawberries I have used berry red for the strawberries and bright green for the leave I have also used a little bright green on the berries to add shadow. Petticoat and t-shirt This may be a little difficult to see but I wanted the petticoat and t-shirt to be white so I have just used a little ice grey 1 and then blended with the blender pen. Strawberry patch and ground I have used berry red for the berries bright green for the leaves and sunflower yellow for the flowers, I have then used meadow green to all over to tone the other colours down and colour the rest of the area. I have used ice grey 1&2 for the area around her feet. Hair I wanted Emma to be a red head so I have laid henna and burnt orange down as shown in the first image and then blended together with terracotta. Basket The colours for the basket are apricot and terracotta Highlighting And here she is all ready to make into a card for Tuesday the image on the right hand side has been high-lighted with a little gelly roll white highlighter pen to give it a little lift. I picked the gorgeous image “fairy with a wand” from the bunches digi set for next weeks challenge, isn’t she just a cutie and would be ideal for lots of challenges. Now I am apologising for the photos straight away, the weather was horrid and so dark

Firstly I decided on which papers I would be using and then got all of my colours together, I used Vanilla and Saffron for the skin, I like go over the area a few times with Vanilla and then use saffron around the hairline for shadow, her cute cheeks were coloured with pastel pink

Next I did her tights, I wanted to do a solid colour instead of strips so I used amber on the edges and left a white gap in the middle I then used manderin on the edge again to make the edges darker. Next was onto the dress, now with the light coming up above her I wanted the bottom of the dress to be shaded so I used pastel pink for the main dress and then the shadow was cocktail pink, on the picture below it does look very stark so always blend over with the lighter colour over the darker colour to blend the two together.

As you can see once it is blended it is nice and fluid, onto the hair now and I used Tan as the base colour

Then I pick out where I think the darker areas will be and colour with cocoa, again it looks very harsh so go over the area again with tan so the colours blend, you may need to do this a few times to get it how you want, but I can do it half a dozen times just so it looks how I want it too, never be scared of adding more colour. Finally I used carmine to do her frills and used some stickles for the wings and pazzazz of the wand :)

Now we know how difficult it is to find good storage for our ProMarkers, well Nicky sent us a link to her blog and with Nicky’s permission we are going to show you her fabulous storage solution she has done,

Nicky’s Wording ………
My promarkers have been driving me made as they were in a number of different containers and I never seem to pick up the right container, so I decided I needed to sort it.This is a CD storage box from Tescos (£16.97) it comes with 100 sleeves to put CD in.
Being sad I had some Pro markers in my handbag so was able to try them in the shop for size! Each sleeve holds seven promakers and each section comfortable hold 10 sleeves or eleven with a little bit of a squeeze. As I said I like things very organised or as my DH says OCD!
I used some adhesive labels in my Craft Robo and cut out the little circles this way they were still attached to the backing sheet I could colour them and then peel them off with my poky tool and stick to the ends of the pens, I also have put a coloured circle on the bar of each sleeve (which slides out making this very easy)
In the back of each sleeve I have a little card with the name of the promarker and a square coloured if I have that one. The sheets in the top of the lid come from the Letraset site
The one on the left is a download of the complete range coloured the one on the right is blank with just the names so you can colour in the pens you own and see at a glance which ones you have or haven't got. This fits neatly in the draw of my craft desk is easy to carry around and at last all my promarkers are in one place and easy to see and grab. I can take just one out or if doing shading I can take the sleeves out - the sleeve are already numbered so easy to put back in place!
Like lots of people I craft in the corner of our living room I might put some photos on to give you all ideas on how to craft in small place that have to look tidy when we finished! lol

Well it's my turn this week to show you how I colour my images. This week we are being sponsored by the very lovely and talented Chris of Sketching Stamper and I've chosen Butterfly Fairy for my image. I've been trying out different techniques on how to colour with ProMarkers to get a Vintage style of colouring and I'd like to show you this today.

Steps 2 -4 - I first start off with the darkest shade, which in this case is Coral and I've gone round the edges where I think the shadows will be. Then I use Sunkissed Pink for the next layer and then Blush.

Steps 5 - 8 - Next I use the Warm Grey 4 where I think the shadows will be, then I've then layered with Coral, then Sunkissed Pink and then Almond.

Steps 9 - 12 - For the hair I've used the colours Caramel, Walnut, Warm Grey 4 and I've used these where I think the lights and shadows will be. I've then gone all over the hair using Putty to add some highlights.

Steps 13 - 19 - For the Dress and butterfly wings I've used the following colours in this order Antique Pink where I think the shadows will be, then I've layered then with Salmon Pink and then Baby Pink. Then to add a stronger shadow I've then used Warm Grey 4 where the shadows are and then gone over it again with Antique Pink, then Salmon Pink and then I've gone over the whole areas using Baby Pink

Steps 20 - 25 - For the shawl, belt and butterfly I've first used Gold where I think the shadows are, then I've gone over it using Tulip Yellow. The next step again I use the Warm Grey 4 where I think the shadows will be, then I've used Gold and Tulip Yellow. For the highlights I've used Putty

For the last two steps I've used Cool Grey 3 to go around the image where I think shadows will be and then used my blender pen to soften the shadows a bit more.

And this is the final result.

I hope that this tutorial has given you some ideas on how to colour using ProMarker pens.

And the other treat this week is a fabulous tutorial from Maria, who has focussed on adding pattern to a coloured image, so, over to Maria....

I chose 'Lizzie with Flowers' from the DigiStamp Boutique for next week's Passion for Promarkers challenge, and in my tutorial I'd particularly like to show you how I added a pattern to Lizzie's dress.

Steps 1-3. Colour Lizzie's skin with Ivory, then add shading with Blush, and a spot of Pastel Pink on her cheeks, finally blending the colours together with another layer of Ivory.

Steps 4-6. Colour her hair with Tan, then add shading with Caramel and Walnut, and blend together with Caramel.

Steps 7-8. Colour the flowers with Baby Pink and shade with Carmine, then blend the colours together with Baby Pink. Follow the same steps for colouring the leaves and grass, but using Leaf Green, and Marsh Green for shading.

Steps 9-10. Colour Lizzie's dress with Duck Egg, and add shading with Denim. To add the polka dots, hold your Blender pen vertically and touch the very tip of your nib wherever you would like to place a spot. The Blender will have lifted some of the colour from the dress, and will leave you with a dotty pattern!

Welcome to this weeks Digi Friday. Today I (Ida) will show you how I have coloured my image for next weeks challenge. The image is sponsored by POLLY CRAFT. As we get to choose the image I just had to get this cute little kitten "Blossoming Friendship from the Spring Things series.

I start by colouring the cat with the lightest colour I want to use (Warm grey 1). I then add two layers of shades with Warm Grey 2 and 3. To make them blend together I colour over my image again using the lightest of my shades, Warm Grey 1. I use small circle motions to better wet the areas where there are shades.

I do the same when colouring the three, flowers and grass. I use the lightest of the shades in the colours I want to use, and then I add a darker colour to make the shades. Before I go over the image with the lightest of my colours
On the little cute bird I have just added a orange mouth and used Warm Grey 1 to add some shadows, before I've gone over the image with the Blender pen. I usually don't use the blender pen, but for areas you want to blend to white it works great!

Right now over to Emma for a great tutorial, enjoy!

For my tutorial today I am using the ''Fishing Friends'' image from Pixie Dust Studio. I have printed onto Stampin Up Whisper White card stock using my Epson Stylus Printer.

When colouring with my promarkers I tend to follow the same technique...colour the area in the lightest shade, add a thick line all round the edges with a darker shade then a thinner line again round the edges with the darkest shade I am using. To blend I go back to the lightest shade and colour the area until I am happy with the finish.

Skin - I started colouring the skin using Ivory,Vanilla & Blush.

I coloured the whole area with Ivory, then went around the edges with a thick line of vanilla followed by a thinner line of Blush. I also created the cheek colour using Blush...

I then used Ivory to blend...

Hair - For the hair I used Satin, Tan & Cinnamon.

Following the same technique - Satin all over, thick line of tan and then a thinner line of Cinnamon...

Then blended using Satin...

Boots - I coloured the boots using Cool Grey 1 & 3 plus Ice Grey 5... Dungarees - Pastel Blue, Cool Aqua, Duck Egg and Agean for the buttons... Shirt - Lime Green, Pear Green & Moss

Patch & Bucket - Lipstick Red & Ruby...

Then to add the finishing touches to my image I coloured all round the outer edge with Cool Grey 1, added highlights using a Uni-Ball Signo white pen and used a Sakura Gelly Roll 'Clear Star' pen to add a bit of shimmer to the fishing line and bucket.

Now for this weeks tutorial. This tutorial is done by yours truly, Gina and will show you how to add text to a digi image, the image I have used is “Elvin the Toad Background” from Digital Delights, it is a perfect image to add a greeting to,

First of all you need gimp, it is a FREE image editing software and you can download it here,

Open the software and click “File - New” then drop down the template menu and chose A4. (If you need to see bigger pics just click on them.)

Now you need to go and find the image you want to edit or add text to, for this you need to click on “File – Open as layers”. You then go and find your image from where you store your images on your computer

You should see something similar to the picture below, but of course with your own image. Now if you print the image as it comes it may be too large and waste too much paper (you know what us crafters are like). So firstly we want to scale the picture down, for this hover over the 4th button down on the left hand side of your toolbox, it should say Scale Tool, click and then click on your image

This is what you should now be seeing, at the bottom of the toolbox you should tick the box “keep aspect” this means you will not lose the shape of your image. Each corner of the image has a square, click and drag the corner to the size you would like the image, don’t forget you have rulers to give sizes on the sides.

Once you have the size you require click on “move tool” which is located on your toolbox 2nd in and 3rd icon down. Now you can move your image anywhere on the page to save space

When you are happy with the location of your image “File – Print”, select your printer and print… be careful to make sure the paper is lined up properly, you will see why later on.

Ok now here you must put down which way your paper has come out of the printer, I just put an arrow with which way it goes back in. Now go colour in your image

I like to zoom in at this point to see my image better, click “View – Zoom – Zoom in” the more you want to zoom the more you do it

Now for the wording, you maybe wondering why I have not done the wording already……..well, I have tried it both ways and when I printed off the wording and then coloured in the image the wording bled and ruined the image, this way the wording goes on top of the colouring and does not bleed at all.
Click on the large black A button which is the “Text tool”

Down the middle of the tool box there is a AA which is all of your fonts, here is where you choose which font you want to use and also the size of font. I used Yearbook solid and the size of text was 85 px,

Move to the area you want to add text and click, there is a little GIMP text editor box that shows itself, click the “use selected font” box so you can see which font you are using and in the text box write the wording you want, you will then see the wording show up in your area on your image, once you are happy close the text box, you don’t need to worry that it is in the correct place, we will sort that out in a few pics :)

Now on this image I have chosen I want a slight slant to the wording so click on the icon above the big black A (text tool), this is the rotate tool,

Click on the text you have just done, making sure you have a dotted line around the text, you should see something similar to below. Now to move the wording to a slant hold down your left button on mouse and move, it is very sensitive but don’t worry about that, once you think you have the correct position click rotate on the box that appeared near your image, if the box is ever in the way just hold your left button down and click on the box to move.

If you are still not happy with the location of the wording use your “Move tool” again which is located in the tool box, click the text you want to move, again make sure you have a small dotted line around the text. Left button down and drag the text to where you want it to go

Just repeat the above instructions for the Birthday and Name

Put your paper with your coloured image back into the printer the correct way up and print again, if you have been careful you should have a perfect match

Here is the finished image, of course I still have some colouring to do.

I do hope I have not bored you to tears, I know it looks very long winded but it really does only take a few minutes to do and with the personalisation of the image I think is really effective.

So without further ado, over to Denise for her tut.

For my Digi Friday tutorial today I am using a super cute image by Doodle Palace called ‘bunnies & strawberries’
I have printed my image out using my Epson inkjet printer onto 225gsm smooth white card. You can click on the pictures for a closer look.
This is the image before I begin colouring with my promarkers (see how cute it is):

In the first picture I have completely coloured the leaves with meadow green and the strawberries with red:

Next I add shading with apple on the leaves and berry red on the strawberries. Don’t panic if you think it looks too harsh when blended it will look fine:

Then I added a touch of leaf green to the leaves and ruby to the strawberries for added depth before blending them all together with my original colours (meadow green and red):

As I wanted to keep my bunnies white I just added highlights with ice grey 1 and shaded their ears with pastel pink:

My next job was to colour the ground with meadow green and I added shading with apple:

I did the same for the sky with powder blue and shaded with pastel blue (once again don’t worry if it looks a little ‘blotchy’ it will even out once blended):

Finally I blended the ground and the sky with the original colours (meadow green and powder blue):

As I will be cutting out the image I didn’t colour the whole of the background in. If you want to add clouds you could blend out some of the colour with your blender pen. I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial - don’t forget to check back on Tuesday when I will be using this image on my card.

Now, over to Debbi for her image tutorial...

I have used the "Smelling the Cherry Blossoms" set from Fred She Said, and printed one of the images with background and a few of the cherry blossom images onto a sheet of SU Whisper White cardstock. I have an HP Photosmart printer and use regular HP ink)

I coloured small circles of Pale Pink for the wee girl's cheeks,

Then covered all the skin areas with Blush, blending with the Pale Pink over her cheeks

Next, I coloured her hair, starting with Caramel which I used all over - leaving a small area white. This is where I imagine the light would be shining onto.

Then I used Cocoa to cover the whole area - apart from the white area and a small area of the Caramel

The next shade I used was Walnut, which I used on the darkest areas of her hair ie: at the roots and ends.

I went back over all the coloured areas of the hair to blend with Caramel

To colour her kimono, I coloured it using small circular motions over the whole area with Meadow Green, then used small marks of Apple where I imagine the shadowed areas would be. I used the Meadow Green again to blend the darker areas.

I then coloured the kimono trim and her obi (that's the sash of a kimono) with Arctic Blue, laying down more layers for the shaded areas

Moving onto the cherry blossoms, I first dotted some Aubergine into the centres, then blended outwards onto the petals with Pink Carnation

To colour the wall I used Warm Grey 3 and 4, and added some Tan to the stones to give them a bit more texture

And to finish off the background, I used Lilac and Amethyst to colour the mountains, Leaf Green, Apple and Meadow Green for the grass, Leaf Green, Umber and Caramel for the trees and Cool Grey 3 to add a bit of shadow to her tabi socks.

I'll be using this image on my DT card this Tuesday, so look out for it.

Decoupage using a Digital image

Decoupage is still very popular and can be done easily with rubber stamps. You can also decoupage with Digital images. This tutorial will show you how to do it easily.
The image I have used is Whimsical Girl Heart Garden from Bee Crafty.

1. First I printed the image 4 times using Photo Printing Wizard onto good quality white cardstock ( about 250 gsm)

2. I then coloured one image with my Promarkers. My 2 main colours are Mango and Bright Green. This isn't necessary as this is the base image which will be layered but I think it gives a more professional look.

3. I then cut out the image, in this case using a Nestability die.

4. I have then coloured and cut out various parts of the image from the remaining 3 images.

4. Here is a close up of the cut out images.

5. If you don't have many Promarkers and want to use shading on your images you can go over your colouring with the same colour to deepen it. In this case I have gone over the Mango with the same Mango pen on the left side of the image. I have done the same with the Bright Green. This will give the shaded effect

6. I have layered the pieces on top of each other with foam pads.

7. Next I have used Glossy accents over the heart shape flowers and sprinkled tiny yellow accent beads. The Glossy accents is clear and will act as a glue to hold the beads in place.

And there you have a decoupaged image made from a digital image.

Digital image on Shrink plastic and coloured with Promarkers.

1. I have also printed the image directly on to Shrink plastic. Be careful when handling this though as the ink stays wet.

2. Colour in the image taking care not to touch the print as it will smudge. Your colouring with Promarkers doesn't have to be good here! Don't use very dark colours as the colours you use intensify when the image is shrunk. Punch a hole in the Shrink plastic if you wish to attach it to your project with a brad or to thread ribbon through.

3. Finally shrink it with a Heat gun. You now have a small "tile" to attach to your project

So, lets get on with Caryn's tutorial - you're going to love it.

I have chosen this cute little image for the challenge next week from Soft Pencil. She is printed onto Stampin Up Whisper White cardstock using an inkjet printer.

The paper I had in mind inspired me as to how I was going to colour it. It is from the Sweet Stack by DCWV.

The pattern is very similar to the design on the wings so I chose my colours accordingly

I started by applying the palest pink all over the wings and then randomly added the other darker shades to different areas until I was happy with the effect I got.

I moved on to the hair chosing shades of yellow building up the colour and adding areas of shadow at the roots with Gold

I coloured in the whole hair area with Primrose to smooth out any hard lines.

For the skin I started with Vanilla and added depth and shadow with Satin. I gave her rosy cheeks with Blush.

Finally I used a quickie glue pen and highlighted the pattern on the wings and covered her dress finishing off with a dusting of fine crystal glitter.

It feels like ages since I last did a tutorial, so I thought I'd get back to basics again and show you how I do another monochrome image. You can achieve a really striking effect with just a few grey promarkers.

Firstly here's what I used: Stampin' Up, Whisper White cardstock, Memento Tuxedo Black inkpad, Coffee Time stamp from Sugar Nellie and Ice Grey 1,2,3,4 and 5 promarkers

Stamp your image onto the cardstock

Using the Ice Grey 1, I coloured where the shadowed areas of her skin would be, e.g. under the fringe, under her chin, the bottom side of her hands

Then I used Ice grey 1 again to colour most of her hair, leaving a small section in the middle white

I then took the Ice grey 2, and coloured over most of the area I coloured in the previous step, again leaving a small section near the middle in Ice Grey 1

Repeat this with the Ice Grey 3, then 4 and 5

I then used Ice Grey 1 in small circular motions all over the hair to blend the hard lines, you may have to do this more than once to get rid of the hard lines

For her tights and sleeves, I coloured the whole areas with Ice Grey 2 - using small circular motions

I used Ice Grey 4 to colour lines on either side of alternate stripes on her tights and sleeves

I then used Ice Grey 3 to colour the stripes in between, and then Ice Grey 5 on either side of these darker stripes - this makes the legs and arms look more rounded.

Using the same blending techniques as before, I coloured the dress, coffee cup and shoes

And the finished image...

Welcome to another Weekend workshop, we are back this week with Sue’s image for her post on Tuesday, she has done a tutorial on mixed mediums and also Limited colours, over to Sue -
Mixed Mediums Technique
Hi I want to share two different ways to colour you images,my card called for more subtle colours on my images so here are two different ways to achieve the effect. Mixed Medium Technique Start by selecting you favourite smooth card stock and dye based ink. Here are my preferred options. Stamp your image and lay a single layer of ProMarker onto your image this works best with pale colours. Faces are blush boys hair and trousers ivory jumper and shoes almond girls hair ivory and dress satin. Next you will need polychromo pencils (or similar) and sansodor (or similar) and paper stumps. You will now place a small amount of pencil around the face (see the boy) I have used brown.... trust me it does works!!! You then dip your paper stumps into the sansodor and blend the pencil into the centre of the face. Don't be afraid to use plenty of sansodor the ink will not smudge (this is why it must be dye based). Continue to do this using the desired colours on your image, I have used deep pink on the dress and brown on the the trousers hair and shoes and red on the jumper. Add a little glitter to the wing and some Sunkissed pink on the cheeks. You will need to be patient and spend time blending the pencil with the sansodor and you may have to add colour several times until you get to the required depth.
Limited Colours Technique
For this image I have used only Five colours blush,satin,sunkissed pink tan and caramel. Faces coloured with blush trousers tan and dress satin. Colour a layer of satin around the edges of the faces and then a little sunkissed pink on the cheeks blend all over again with blush. A second layer of tan is added around the edges of the trouser and caramel on the shoes and jumper... then blend all the clothes with a layer of satin (I find it is best to do this with the large end). Now do the same with sunkissed and satin on the dress. I have used tan and caramel for the hair. Come back on Tuesday and see this image (with some glitter on the wing) on my challenge week card. Gosh, we're into February already - 2010 seems to be flashing before our eyes.
This week we have a super tutorial from Sue, it's a bit of a two-parter as she'll continue with her challenge image next week. So without further ado, over to Sue.

Hi today I am going to show you how to make a simple heart shaped card

Here is what you will need coloured light card or printer paper, scissors, bone folder,pencil, ruler and a pint glass.

Fold a piece of A4 paper or light card in half and then in half again.

Use the glass and ruler to draw a shape as shown in the picture (you might need to click the picture to get a better look) make sure you don't cut away the fold a the top completely leave a small amount joined.

Cut your shape out with scissors and you will have your template for the heart card.

Take half a piece of A4 paper or light card and fold in half.

Take your heart card template and use it to draw a half heart on your paper.

Cut your half heart out a few millimeters inside the line, the new heart will be
smaller.

The smaller heart is the template for your patterned paper.

Fold you desired card in half and use your template to cut your card blank making sure to leave some of the folded edge so you end up with a card and not two hearts!!

Here is your blank card ready to use.

Weekend Workshop #31

My goodness that's been another super quick week, and that's nearly January over and done with - where on earth does the time go?

Sarah has done this week's workshop for you and there's a wee clue as to the theme for next week's challenge here. But you don't need to worry about that too much until Tuesday as the current challenge doesn't finish til 9am on Tuesday 2nd Feb. As always, we've been bowled over with the fabulous entries - you all seem to love the Pastel Green and Blossom colour combo as much as we did. So if you haven't entered yet, give it a try.

So, we'll leave you in Sarah's capable hands now...

Colouring Animals Tutorial for Passion for Promarkers by Sarah Horne

Materials required:

· Bleed resistant cardstock – I use Stampin Up Whisper white cardstock as it is the best I have found so far.

· Black Bleed resistant Ink such as Impress or Memento

· White Ink Essentials pen

· Promarkers – Ice grey 1,3 & 5 & Pastel pink

· Magnolia Elephant & Acrylic block

1. Stamp the image onto the cardstock

1. For this tutorial I have done the shading first so it is clearer to see, this image in particular has markings that help indicate where the shadows will lie – I have used Ice Grey 5 as my darkest colour as follows:

1. I used Ice Grey 3 next, at this stage I have not blended ~ I have simply just laid down the colour next to the darkest shade.

1. Next I gave the elephant rosy cheeks with the Pastel pink pen

1. Next I used the Ice Grey 1 pen to blend all the colours together, even the rosy cheeks. I went over the darker colours with small circular motions and removed all the harsh lines……..this will lighten your darker colours so you can add some more shadowing using Ice grey 1 to remove harsh lines as before

1. Finally I added some highlights to his cheeks and toes with a white Ink Essentials pen ~ sorry photo not that great for this stage

Weekend Workshop #30

Woops, sorry folks - lost track of the days there! But the fabulous Sepia tutorial from Caryn is well worth the wait, so without any further ado, I'll hand over to the fabulous Caryn...

This week I have chosen to show you how I colour an image to give a sepia effect using ProMarkers in shades of brown. I am using this gorgeous Chickadee image from Funky Kits and have stamped her with Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto Stampin Up Whisper White card. This is just the colour combination I have chosen to use but a similar effect could be gained using whatever shades from the brown range you may have.
I start by colouring the entire image with a layer of Satin.

I then use Pastel Beige to start adding definition in the shadowy parts such as the roots of the hair and the folds of the fabric. I continue with this using Sandstone to deepen the colour a little.

To give the hair a darker tone and to distinguish it from the rest of the image I add Cinnamon to the darker parts. At this stage I then go over the whole image with the Satin to smooth out and blend any harsh lines.

My next step is to add a bit of warmth to the image using Caramel, again in the darker parts of the image and then blend again with Satin.

Finally I add tiny touches of Umber to define the shadows and go over any remaining hard lines with the Satin again.

Well as I say, this is just one way of achieving a vintage sepia effect but there are so many shades available across the Brown spectrum. It’s a case of experimenting with what you’ve got but the final effect will be very striking and perfect for when you want a vintage look to your card. Hope this has been helpful to some of you.

Weekend Workshop #29

Hi there and welcome to this week's ww. We hope you're not all snowed in - but at least on the bright side of that it gives us more time to craft eh?

Maria has done a fabulous image tutorial for us this week, using one of the Gorjuss Girl stamps from Sugar Nellie.
But before we get to that, remember there is still plenty of time until 9am Tuesday to get your entries in for this week's challenge and the prize is 2 Sugar Nellie stamps.

So, over to Maria...

For my colouring tutorial I chose a palette of pink and green Promarkers, as well as skin and hair tones, including Ivory, Blush, Pastel Pink, Pale Pink, Baby Pink, Cocktail Pink, Antique Pink, Meadow Green, Leaf Green, Chestnut, Umber, and a Blender.

I started by colouring her face and arms with an Ivory base coat.

Then I added Blush to the area that would naturally be in shade.

I added a touch of blush with Pale Pink on her cheeks…

And blended all the coloured areas with Ivory.

I coloured her dress firstly with Pale Pink, then added shadow with Baby Pink.

I used a darker shade of pink, Cocktail Pink, for extra definition, and blended all the colours with Pale Pink.

I coloured the hearts on her dress and her hair ornament with Antique Pink, and then coloured the edges of her wings and her waistband with Meadow Green, with Leaf Green for a touch of shading. I used the Blender to soften the lines of green on her wings, and I coloured her tights with pink and green to match her dress.

Finally, I coloured her hair, first with Chestnut all over, followed by the darker areas (using the inked image as a guide) with Umber, and finally blended it all with Chestnut once again.

Weekend Workshop #28

Welcome to another WW, and this time we have a masking tutorial from one of our guest designers, Sam.
So without any further ado...

I used card-stock from Rymans, it is Bright white coated card, which is available in 160gsm and 200gsm. I usually use the 160gsm and it works fantastic with Promarkers. I used Memento ink in Tuxedo Black.

First I stamped the Tilda image onto the card

My next step was to stamp the same image onto a post it note close to the sticky edge

Then cut out the image from the post it note

I wanted Tilda to sit on top of the piano

Using a stamp positioner I stamped the piano image onto the thin acrylic sheet

I placed the stamp I removed the thin When the post it

positioner over the acrylic sheet containing note is removed Tilda

stamped image of Tilda my image and stamped looks as though she is

so she looked as though the piano in its place sitting on top of the

she was sitting on the piano piano.

The finished image coloured ready to go on my card...

Well, that was a super tutorial that'll work for lots of things - girls on swings, sitting on benches, chairs etc.

Weekend Workshop #27

Happy New Year everyone, all the team here at PfP would like to wish you all a very healthy, happy, prosperous and of course crafty 2010.
To kick off the new year we have a super image tutorial from Michele who has chosen the theme for the challenge that starts on Tuesday 5th January.

There's still a little time to enter our Xmas Extravaganza before 9am on Tuesday - there are lots of fabulous prizes to be won.

For my colouring tutorial I've used the gorgeous image from Whiff of Joy Melinda Holding Heart. I've stamped the image onto white paper that is 120gsm using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. As there are too many photos I will put very little text and hopefully you'll be able to get the idea.

For the skin I've used Blush, Sunkissed Pink, Coral & Cocktail Pink - Starting with the lightest first and trying to imagine where the light source is coming from. Then use the next shade and not going as far as the first colour. Keep doing this until you've used all the shades and then go over the whole of that area with the lightest shade again.

For the hair I've used Tan, Cocoa & Chestnut. Then gone all over it again using Almond

For the trousers I've used Tan, Cocoa & Chestnut. Then gone all over it again using Almond

For the cushion I've used Baby Pink, Cocktail Pink & Antique Pink. Then I've gone over the whole area again with Baby Pink.

For the ribbon and frill of the cushion I've used Baby Pink, Lipstick Red & Crimson. Then going over all of the area again with Baby Pink.

Weekend Workshop #26 PLUS Special Xmas Prize

Remember that we said that last week was the last workshop of 2009 – well we told a little white lie! Some of you may already know that Debbi was asked by Letraset to select the colours and put together a tutorial for their new Craft Gift Pack. She was absolutely thrilled to do this for them, and we were very proud of her too. The gift packs are now on sale at various art and craft stores and online, as well as from Letraset direct, so we thought we would share the original tutorial with you. The colours she has used are from the same selection contained in the pack.

Fig. 1 Start by colouring the areas of skin with Blush, lay down more layers to increase the depth in areas that would be in shadow e.g. just under the hat brim

Fig. 2 Colour the clothing, using small circular movements, in Denim Blue

Fig. 3 Concentrating on one area at a time, add a darker shade—China Blue, in areas where there are creases and where there would be shadow

Fig. 4 Blend the hard edges of the darker shade by going over the darker areas, in a circular motion again, with the lighter shade and working outwards

Fig. 5 Shows the same technique applied over the whole image

Fig. 6 Colour the accent/trim areas with Fuchsia, laying down more layers of colour over areas that would be in shadow.

Finish the image by colouring the hair with Caramel, Cocoa and Umber.

Trim the image to the required size, and layer it onto a contrasting cardstock, trimming the edges to leave a narrow border around the image. Add glitter and/or adhesive gems to the image.

Cover a card blank with patterned paper, then take a co-ordinating scrap piece of patterned paper and layer it onto the same contrasting cardstock as before.

Take a piece of white satin ribbon, and using the broad nib, colour the ribbon with Fuchsia. Then wrap the ribbon around the matted paper panel.

Adhere the matted paper panel at an angle to the covered card blank, then, using 3D foam tape adhere the image to the card front.

Add embellishments, the card below has 3 snowflakes punched from the co-ordinating cardstock which have been embellished with snowflake sequins and glitter dots.

Finally add a greeting. (Fig. 7)

Weekend Workshop #25

OOPS - am running way behind today - sorry if you've been waiting patiently for this week's workshop. Where on earth does the time go?

This week's challenge colours of Burnt Umber and Marsh Green is proving to be quite the challenge - but those of you who have been brave enough to give it a try have made some gorgeous creations - so go on, give it a try, you might surprise yourself. You'll get plenty of inspiration from the Design Teams creations. Remember the challenge doesn't end until 9am on Tuesday so you've still got plenty of time.

This is our last tutorial for 2009, Gina and Denise have decided to let the DT have a wee rest until 2010 - when we'll be back all refreshed with some new ideas for you.

So to finish off 2009 in style, we have a fabulous Vintage image tutorial from Maria.

For my vintage colouring tutorial I chose a palette of vintage-look Promarkers that included: Vanilla, Sandstone, Cinnamon, Ruby, Crimson, Khaki, Pear Green, Marsh Green, Powder Blue, Grey Green, and a Blender.

I would normally stamp onto white card, but I thought that using cream cardstock would be more appropriate to start off my vintage theme. I also used Rich Cocoa Memento ink, instead of Tuxedo Black, to continue with the vintage look:

I started my colouring by applying some shading around the inside edge of the snowman with Vanilla:

Then I coloured the brown areas, first with Sandstone, leaving a few areas uncoloured for highlights, followed by Cinnamon for the shadows, blending lightly with Vanilla, and adding more shadow where required:

I coloured in the red areas next, first with Ruby, again leaving some places uncoloured for highlights, then with Crimson for shadow:

I blended the reds with another layer of Ruby, and removed some of the colour with a blender in the areas where I wanted to show the highlights, and to give a worn look. This is done by gently stroking the blender on the appropriate areas until the amount of colour is reduced to your liking. Go easy if your blender is new and juicy!

To colour his scarf, I used Khaki in the shadows, then a layer of Pear Green all over, and redefined the shadows with Marsh Green, ending with another light covering of Pear Green:

I coloured the snowman's patches and birdhouse using the colours in my chosen palette. Then I edged the area around the snowman with Powder Blue, to make the image 'pop' a little, although this hardly shows on my photo:

I cut out my image, and edged it using a piece of Cut and Dry Foam and some Walnut Distress ink, for an added vintage look. Finally, I mounted the finished image onto a brown cardstock mat ready for adding to my card:
